A number of years ago I got, very unexpectedly, the surprise of my life. A friend of ours (more casual at the time than close) gave me a horse. I had enjoyed riding the few horses we had when I was growing up. Over the years since I’d left home, I’d wanted a horse, but not to the extent of trying to get one.
For one reason I had a growing family (a husband and seven children), the ministry, and a job which took more time than I seemed to have. Another reason was the expense of feeding and housing a horse.
So you can imagine how surprised and excited I was when, seemingly out of the blue, I now owned a horse. Although by this time most of the children had either married or were away at college or were just away, I had a full schedule and was dealing with some other personal, emotional, and physical issues. Because I was so busy, it was a while before I went to see the horse which they kept in their pasture. Their great grandson was riding the horse that day. It was a beautiful tracking horse. I did not ride because I wasn’t dressed for riding and did not have much time. My plans were to come back later in my “cowgirl suit” and ride many more times.
Although I was an adult, I could imagine myself riding it while wearing a cowgirl suit. I’d said I was going to buy one because I’d always wanted one when I was growing up. We regularly received mail-order catalogs with pictures of little girls in cowgirl suits. I wanted one so-o bad. (I don’t think I ever told anyone how badly I wanted one of those cowgirl suits.) But getting one was out of the range of my parents’ finances. (After most of my brothers and older sisters left home and daddy bought a tractor, we soon no longer had mules and horses to do the farm work. So I grew out of the little girl cowgirl suit syndrome.) However, more than a half century later those catalogs pictures are still clear in my mind.
To the reader: Holy Spirit directed me to tell this story. It was written in four parts. If it seems repetitive, vague, or even confusing, it’s because was originally written to two specific people. However, I believe it also has a message for the you, the reader. Allow it to speak to your heart as it did to theirs and has spoken to mine.
The Horse Story: To A J and Wilma Holmes
I was studying one day when Holy Spirit brought to mind the story I’d written several months ago about the horse you gave to me . He gave me words to write that I had never thought of before. He showed me the love and favor that is on your life and on mine, too.
Below is that story. I wrote it in March after reading a story in a magazine about the healing power of horses. It came to me as revelation as I wrote, not as something I thought up.
The Miracle Horse
Only God knew the miracle I needed in my life at the time. He realized that a monster called fear had invaded my life. Although he was subtle most of the time, he was real. Only God knew what it would take to heal the wounds so deep and to alleviate the fear and pain that had gripped my heart over the years. That’s where the subtlety came into play. As you know, I had a good life with loving Christian parents and a loving husband and Godly children. Yet, I was fearful in so many situations. So He used you to give me a horse. It was the healing balm that I needed to soothe and heal areas that I didn’t even know needed healing. As a result I did not take the gift as seriously as I should have. I only saw the horse once before that unexpected disease took it away. Had I known, I’m sure I would have responded differently. I was like Jacob in Genesis 28:16 KJV And Jacob …said, Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not.
As revelation came to me, I really realized there are many things I don’t know about the goodness, love, and care Father God has for us from the time of our conception.
Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.)
However, more than a decade later, God has revealed to me that your God inspired kindness is still working. It serves to close and heal wounds and to deliver me from a fear that even now sometimes tries to filter or storm its way back into my life.
You probably didn’t know what you were doing other then giving a gift, but God did. I regret it has taken me so many years to see it—to get it. Know that God has revealed to me that He used your gift to perform a miracle of healing in my life. He has shown me that He’s always working on our behalf.
Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. KJV (See also Deuteronomy 31:6, 8; Joshua 1:5.)
About three months later He gave me these words for you:
Today, as a reward for your faithfulness, I give you the gift of WORDS
which you will pray out in the Spirit.
(Jeremiah 1:10b … the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.)
Then recently He directed the writing of the rest of this story below and instructed me to share it with you.
As I began to write again, Father God showed me a true picture of Himself. I did not do one thing to earn the horse that you gave me. It was given to me because of the goodness and kindness of your heart. As I was writing under the unction of the Holy Spirit, it was revealed to me that that’s exactly what God did when He gave Jesus to die for our sins. We did not, nor could we ever do one thing to earn that kind of love.
It was because of the goodness and mercy of a God who is LOVE, that he gave his only begotten Son. Of course, as you already know, when we receive Him Savior and Lord, we can call him Abba Father.
1 John 4:8b-9 KJV 8b… God is love. 9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
Father wants you to know that there’s never an act of kindness or obedience to His will that ever stops bearing fruit. It really does produce twelve manner of fruits every month: and the leaves of the tree were for … healing ….”
(Revelation 22:2 …on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. KJV )
Although I didn’t recognize God’s involvement in your giving at the time, that didn’t stop Him from presenting the healing balm that I needed. Just because I was slow in “taking the medicine” (healing balm), it hasn’t hindered Him from sending multitudes of blessings your way.
(Psalm 31:19 KJV Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!)
Now He wants me to tell you that He is stepping it up a notch—several notches, as a matter of fact. This is just because of that one horse—one act of kindness that He never forgets. (Yes, there are many, many other things that you have done and are still doing, but Father God is talking about the horse.)
The blood of Jesus is a never ending flow to to cleanse, heal, deliver, and to
protect. It is a flow sent to make us whole. It is undeniable, unrefutable evidence of God’s never ending love. It shows that He never forgets His covenant to redeem all who call upon his name. (Romans 10:9-10). In the same way, as stated before, God never forgets the good that we do in obedience to his commands.
He has this to say to you and bout you. Believe it and receive it by faith.
Psalm 112:1-9 MSG Hallelujah! Blessed man, blessed woman, who fear God , Who cherish and relish his commandments, Their children robust on the earth, And the homes of the upright—how blessed! Their houses brim with wealth And a generosity that never runs dry. Sunrise breaks through the darkness for good people— God’s grace and mercy and justice! The good person is generous and lends lavishly; No shuffling or stumbling around for this one, But a sterling and solid and lasting reputation. Unfazed by rumor and gossip, Heart ready, trusting in God , Spirit firm, unperturbed, Ever blessed, relaxed among enemies, They lavish gifts on the poor— A generosity that goes on, and on, and on. An honored life! A beautiful life! (The Message)*
Holy Spirit said to sum up including in it what I have already said in the original story above. He said to do it so he can give you that gift of WORDS. As Holy Spirit continued to speak He said, “I will cause them to see what you see. I will cause them to hear what you hear and beyond. I am the Lord your God. It honors Me for you to trust me to write My words through you. Wilma and A J you have the same calling to write and speak My words.”
Father continued, “I will give My WORDS to you at the time you need them.”
Now consider yourselves a water hose, a conduit for the flowing of My WORDS wherever I shall send them. Know that I trust you to do all that I have shown and will show you. Use wisely and faithfully your gift of WORDS.
It all started many years ago with the gift of a horse! Now it will spread throughout the nations. (Psalm 2:8) It will be the WORD of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
You’re Bountifully Blessed,
