How good is God?
Can anyone measure the goodness of God?
Can anyone measure the height of his goodness?
Can anyone find the depths of His goodness?
Can anyone compare to God and how good He is and how wise our God is?
Listen to what the Bible says about God and His goodness and who He really is.
Romans 2:4 4 … despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Romans 11:33-36: 33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! 34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? 35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? 36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
What is goodness?
It is the state or quality of being good, virtue, kindness; generosity, excellence of quality, the best part of anything; essence; strength, a euphemism for God.
Taking those definitions into account, note here that one of the fruit of the Spirit is goodness. God is good, strong, and the best. As born again believers, God expects us to produce that goodness in our lives. He expects us to be what he made us through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Again, How good is God? Can anyone measure the goodness of God? Can anyone measure the height of his goodness? Can anyone find the depths of his goodness? Can anyone compare to God and how good he is and how wise our God is? The answer is, “No.”
Romans 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off….
33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
34For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?
35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?
36For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
God is good and great. He is continuously doing things for us and making his goodness available to us. He is always showing us his goodness in every area of our lives. Because of His love and goodness, He wants us to be filled with the Holy Ghost and all that He has provided for us in this life in Christ.
2 Peter 1:3 KJV According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: …
That’s His goodness.
Psalm 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
How can you tell the good from the bad?
When the goodness of God emanates from us, our life becomes attractive and our faith in God becomes “tasty” to those who have a hunger for the truth and for more of God. It’s not hard to tell good from evil once you have tasted the good. I have been lost and now I am saved and have the life of God living on the in side of me. It is far greater than the death of Satan that once was living in me. God gives me peace when I should be troubled. I have joy when I should be sad. I have the victory even when everything looks bad. Even in seemingly impossible situations, I still come out on top, because God is good.
Psalm 119:68 You are good, and do good; Teach me your statutes.
God wants us to know His ways, and keep his word. If we keep his word and activate it in our life, we will always come out on top. We will do the things that please him, and He will manifest His goodness in the earth through us. It will be seen by others, and through his goodness and the glorious gospel, it will lead men to Christ.
The Bible has much to say about the goodness of God. Listen with your heart
As you look at the following scriptures.
Jeremiah 33:11-14.
11 The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of them that shall say, Praise the Lord of hosts: for the LORD is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: and of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will cause to return the captivity of the land, as at the first, saith the LORD. 12 Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the Lord, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all. 13 Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow. 14 And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the Lord.
Jeremiah 33:9 And it shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and an honour before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do unto them: and they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and for all the prosperity that I procure unto it.
Joel 2:23-26 Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month. 24 And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the fats shall overflow with wine and oil. 25 And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. 26 And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.
That’s God’s goodness. It is ours today. There are things that have been taken from us be cause of the injustice of men. There have been some things held up by the enemy. But now, the Lord says, “I am now releasing them. I am taking the captivity off your money, taking the stress that you have had, and eliminating the lack in your life. It shall all be removed, because this is the year for you to recover all. This is the year and the time that I will arise and your enemies will be scattered. Those that hate you, I will cause to flee before you.”
How will you know God’s goodness?
“I am good, and those who keep my statues and do my commandments, I will cause to ride upon the high places of the earth. I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it. I will cause you to suck honey out of a rock.”
As one manifestations of His goodness, God wants you to understand that, “This is your time to prosper in the things that I have given you in My blood covenant in Jesus Christ. Now as you walk as a covenant man or woman, walk by faith, and walk in love. You praise Me with your whole heart; you bring your tithes and offerings. You pray for the sick, cast out demons, and speak with new tongues. You follow My Spirit and be sensitive to His leading. Get to know My voice, and you will not follow a stranger, since you know not his voice. The goodness of God is so clearly express in John 3:16 : For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. KJV
In another version it reads: For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whosoever believes in ( trusts in, clings to, relies on,) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life. (JOHN3:16)AMP
In His Son is God goodness. Not only did He give us everything we need in His Son, but also, gave us Holy Spirit to teach us how to attain it, and to walk in the full benefit of all He provides for us in His goodness. He wants to show us mercy and His kindness in such generous way. Why? because He so loved us. That is the goodness of God. Indeed the Lord created us for His on plans and purpose which are all good. There never was, in the original plan of God, any intention to do us evil. It has always been to do us good. However, He said, “Evil I will have to judge because it is not a part of who I am.”
Nahum 1:7: The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.
How good is God?
Evil has always brought us trouble, and it’s purpose is to tear us down and destroy us. Evil majors in trying to hinder us from the things that God has for us, but God is good, and He knows the plans that He has for us. So He gave us what we need in Jesus to accomplish His will in our lives on earth. We are not loosers, but we are mighty in the Lord, called to preach this gospel to ends of the earth.
2 Timothy 3:11-13: 11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. 12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. 13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
Romans 11:22: Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
It was the goodness of God that brought the children of Israel out of the Land bondage. He kept His promise to Abraham, but He judged the evil they did. He was faithful to the ones who were obedient to him, and He brought them safe in the promise land.
In the same way, God is good to us. He is continuously doing things for us, or making things available to us. He is always showing his goodness in every area of our lives when we are obedient to his will. Because of His love and goodness, He wants us to be filled with all that He has provided for us in this life in Christ. As noted before, one of the fruit of the Spirit is goodness. God is good, strong, and the best at manifesting His goodness. As born again believers, He expects us to cultivate and produce that goodness in our lives. He expects us to be what he made us through Jesus Christ our Lord.
