Are you familiar with the name, JESUS? Most people are in the context of it being the name of the Son of God. However, I want to talk to you about its power and authority and the place the Name should hold in a believer’s life. When a believer becomes equipped with revelation knowledge of the Name of Jesus, they will be unhindered by the forces of darkness. Look at Philippians 2:10 ESV, “so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,” and Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ [is] the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” When I attended Rhema Bible Training Center, Bro. Hagin taught on the Name of Jesus. From that and my own studies I learned about the power in that Name.
How the Name Became Powerful
THERE IS A NAME
The Name of Jesus gained its power through CONQUEST.
It conquered the devil and all he represents. Jesus conquered sickness, disease, disaster, and every demonic force mentionable. A believer who understands this conquest, will ultimately become victorious in life. Ephesians 1:19 KJV sheds light on His Name and its power for us. “And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power.” Jesus acquired His Name by conquest.
Ephesians 1:20-22 AMPC
20 Which He exerted in Christ when He raised
Him from the dead and seated Him at His [own]
right hand in the heavenly [places],
21 Far above all rule and authority and power
and dominion and every name that is named [above
Every title that can be conferred], not only in this
age and in this world, but also in the age and the
world which are to come.
22 And He has put all things under His feet and
has appointed Him the universal and supreme Head
of the church [a headship exercised throughout the
church].
THERE IS A NAME
The Name of Jesus was CONFERRED on the Son. It is powerful. It was bestowed on Him by Father God. No one else has ever been worthy to receive that name.
Isaiah 45:23 KJV
23 I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.
Philippians 2:9-11 KJV
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him,
and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things
under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus
Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
It was the Father’s plan from the foundation of the world that there should be such a powerful name and that it would be made available to the believing ones. The power in that Name is also available for the lost to call on to be saved.
Romans 10:13 KJV
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
The Name conquers sin.
THERE IS A NAME
The Name of Jesus is above every other name. Everything and everyone will bow to that name. Because He conquered all of the evil forces of darkness, He got His Name by CONQUEST. By His obedience in leaving His heavenly position and becoming a man, God CONFERRED that on Him. (Philippians 2:9 TPT “Because of that obedience, God exalted him and multiplied his greatness! He has now been given the greatest of all names!)” And He acquired His name because God made Him heir of all things, He got His Name by INHERITANCE. (See Hebrews chapter one.)
Hebrews 1:2-4,8-9 KJV (ALL CAPS mine)
2 [God] Hath in these last days spoken unto us
by his Son, whom he hath appointed HEIR of all
things, by whom also he made the worlds;
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the
express image of his person, and upholding all things
by the word of his power, when he had by himself
purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the
Majesty on high;
4 Being made SO MUCH BETTER than the angels,
as he hath by INHERITANCE obtained a MORE
EXCELLENT NAME than they.
8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God,
is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness
is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity;
therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with
the oil of gladness ABOVE thy fellows.
Oh, how wonderful is the Name of Jesus.
How the Name Works for Us
There is a name that becomes deeply rooted in our spirit when we are born again. The Name works for us by our faith in Him.
Ephesians 3:16-17 AMPC
16 May He grant you out of the rich treasury of His
glory to be strengthened and reinforced with mighty
power in the inner man by the [Holy] Spirit [Himself
indwelling your innermost being and personality].
17 Then, by constantly using your faith, the life of
Christ will be released deep inside you, and the
resting place of his love will become the very source
and root of your life.
As the word indicates, the Name of Jesus works for us by faith.
How to Use the Name
Once a person is born again they are cleansed from sin and joined to God through faith in Christ Jesus. Members of the body of Christ have a God given right to the Name of Jesus.
We are to do everything in the Name. We are to speak to every situation with the authority of the Name of Jesus.
Mark 16:15,17-18 KJV
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world,
and preach the gospel to every creature.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe;
In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak
with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any
deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands
on the sick, and they shall recover.
These signs will follow the believing ones. How? Because of His Name. Not only that, Jesus said we’re to do greater work. How? Through the Name of JESUS.
John 14:12 KJV
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
He left work for us to do. The “tool” He left for us to use is His Name.
In Matthew 28, Jesus defeated the devil and this world of darkness, and He delegated that authority to the church. Now, we are to control this world. We’re to lay hands on the sick and preach the gospel using the authority we’ve been given in the Name of Jesus.
That’s what the Apostle Paul did in Acts 16:18 KJV “And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.” The same name that Paul used belongs to you, me, and all of the body of Christ. Access it by study, prayer, and meditating the Word.
There is a NAME. It is powerful. It has all authority. It has been given to the believing ones to use to overcome the devil and all the forces of darkness. When you learn to use the Name of JESUS to the glory of God, you will experience victorious living.
